So I get back from India and I am feeling so refreshed, restored and renewed from a month of yoga training, where I focused on myself. Daily meditations, twice daily physical practices, new experiences, less screen time all added up to a happy girl. It is so so so rare in life that you can carve out 4 weeks to do this. That was Jan/Feb.
March was different. March was filled with a lot of work commitments, family emergencies, much needed time with people I had not seen in a long time. What it was not filled with was self care. This resulted in me getting sick both physically and mentally.
However, it constantly amazes me how awesome our bodies are! I was running on fumes and my body responded by shutting down. There were early warning signs telling me to slow down, but life doesn't always allow for that. I got sick and it was a wake up call that I needed to take care of myself. Which I did. I always tell people to take time for them selves and indulge in self care... but I am human and sometimes need those reminders as well.
I often use in the classes that I teach the mantra "Take care of yourself first, so that you can take care of others." Taking care of yourself is not selfish! It is self preservation. No one can expect you to be on all the time if you have not taken time to take care of yourself!
What will you do to take care of yourself today?
